Find Issue 2: How to follow Act One
The opportunities of making a second issue

Making magazines is a celebration of design and people. Find is no different. As we began to dream what Issue 2 could be, we found an opportunity that we hadn’t expected.
But first, let’s rewind. Issue 1 was a great success for the scope we had set which was refreshingly simple: make a thing that every person in the studio can contribute to, and at the end, we can hold in our hands.
By that measure, it was a complete success! The partners have committed to doing three issues before we revisit the future. However, Issue 2 was an opportunity to look at ways we could improve and take what we learned from the making of Issue 1. What came out of our conversations was, ‘we need to make it less baggy’.

So, we set a new course with Issue 2. There would be places where the whole team could contribute, but we’d be a bit more critical. And, in a balance of both need and want, we decided to run the entire design through one set of hands. Hesh took the assignment and absolutely crushed it (noted recently by the typography award Find Issue 2 picked up from Communication Arts).
Issue 2 still follows the same values and ethos that is bedrock to Find. We’ve improved, tightened and on the journey found joy in the process of making. With the theme ‘Space,’ we wandered and asked questions and looked at small and big. Measuring by the scale of a banana, creating sound for space, featuring the only sensible food to match this theme: Yorkshire pudding.

We have a list to thank, and do in the magazine, but we are forever grateful for our ride-or-die print partner, Rich Pauptit and Flash Reproductions. If you have purchased a copy, thank you so much for your support! If you’re curious or want to know more, check out https://findmagazine.ca/.
